2021.11.29 17:56 ChrisKenneth Can i use a Gopro as a webcam?
I know the answer is yes but for how long? have they fixed the overheating yet because i’m lead to believe it will over heat in about 29 mins of use. I was going to buy two during black Friday for use indoors as a webcam/streaming (since my current webcam is junk) and outdoors as a action cam for both me and my partner.
If the answer is yes they do still overheat, is there much chance of this being fixed in a update?

Just got the official notice that shiba inu will be available on kraken starting tomorrow. Should cause a decent boost in value. Price is already starting to crawl upwards since the announcement.

2021.11.29 17:56 Minahgo Web 3.0 is complete garbage in it's current state - Change my mind!
Good day Reddit, it's time for my very first controversial post! Fair warning, this post is very long to read but the TLDR is in the title. I highly suggest you read it though, you might get a business idea or two out of this.
Before we get started let me state that I am a Web Developer for a good 20 years. I started with Web 1.0, think table layouts and all the other good stuff, and graduated my way to the current Web 2.0. Maybe I finally reached the age where "new stuff" does not make any sense to me but I believe that Web 3.0 has a very very (veeery) long way to go before it can be used in any commercial capacity. Here is why:
1 - The naming convention of Wallets
The name "Wallet" is terrible. Especially for something that acts closer to an actual account or login identity than a traditional wallet. As we here all know (hopefully) is that wallets hold absolutely nothing. Your coins never leave the blockchain. You can put your seed phrase into any wallet app and load your account, you can even load your account in multiple apps at the same time.
The problem continues with the fact that you have to "Connect your wallet" to login to any Web 3.0 Platform. Anybody who has ever tried to make money via the internet will tell you that it is incredibly difficult to get a customer to create an account on your website, let alone pay you for something. The conversion rate of a visitor to a paying customer sits somewhere around 1% depending on your industry. If the first thing a customer sees on your website is the phrase "Connect your Wallet" then you will have a very hard time establishing any kind of trust with them before they click elsewhere. This can be mitigated for certain industries like e-commerce by displaying it later in the checkout flow but games or service apps will struggle.
2 - Native browser wallets do not exist (yet?)
None of the current major browsers have any wallet support whatsoever. To use web 3.0 you will need to install a 3rd party extension that will constantly force you to perform actions offsite. This is the kind of stuff that makes UX designers wake up at night shaking in fear. This just gets worse on the mobile side of things where you not only have to deal with an overlay, but have to swap apps entirely.
With the most popular web platform being mobile nowadays this creates some serious friction points that will keep mass adoption at bay with a 10 foot pole. Ever stopped yourself from doing an action because you felt lazy and forgot you had to put in a 2FA key? Imagine the whole world feeling like that every time they are trying to pay you.
3 - Smart Contracts and their implementation are a giant security risk
First of all, Smart contracts are a really cool piece of software. I absolutely adore them. That said, on the user side of things they are nothing more than a giant security risk.
The first problem is that they cannot be branded. All smart contracts look the exact same in your wallets. It's very easy for the average consumer to accept a smart contract that pops up without paying very close attention to where the contract is from. Which brings us to the second problem.
Smart Contracts are missing access control on the user side. Contracts in their current implementation have exactly 2 access levels. Read & Write. If you give a Smart Contract access to withdraw a coin from your wallet for staking or Liquidity Pool purposes you are signing over EVERY SINGLE COIN ON YOUR ACCOUNT. This can be easily mitigated by avoiding the use of hot wallets on said platforms and by not using shady offers but do you really think the average user cares about that? 10.000% APY man, how can you say no?
4 - Gas Fees need to be institutionalized
One thing we can all agree on is that gas fees are terrible, especially when moving on ETH but the cost is not necessarily the problem here. The fact that an, for the enduser, arbitrary amount of money is added to a transaction is a problem. Sure, we all here know what gas is, how it works, and why it's needed but the average user just sees another fee tacked on to their bill that doesn't even stay the same. Think about this from the current web 2.0 viewpoint. Don't you hate "Convenience Fee's", "Regulatory Response Fee", "Recycle Fee" and so on? Imagine that fee fluctuating every time you press the back button and enter the checkout again. This is how this will look to the non tech savvy people.
For this to work, gas fees need to be removed from the consumer side completely and carried by the business which isn't too hard to price in. The problem here are the aforementioned smart contracts. Ever tried to play one of the new metaverse games, and before you even see the Start screen you have accept a contract and pay for gas? How did that feel? Did you even have the correct currency on the correct network to get started? Which brings us to number 5.
5 - There are too many networks with currencies and not enough standards
The amount of gymnastics required to get the correct currency on the correct network to accept an action is complete insanity. Yes, people like us can figure out how to move IOTA from a Firefly wallet to Binance, swap it to XLM, send it to our CDC account to swap it for SAND and then move it to Metamask so we can buy that virtual mega yacht NFT with our retirement fund.
The average user however needs, at the very least, all currencies & networks in the same wallet with a backup FIAT on- & off-ramp and auto swaps so that they never have to move their coins ANYWHERE. The current landscape of transferring crypto is so complicated each and every one of us here (with balls smaller than a container ship), sends a test transaction first to make sure they are doing the right thing. Imagine how this looks from the outside.
I am very confident that most things listed above can be solved with time but the current hype for Metaverse games and Web 3.0 applications, is just that, hype with very limited real world applications.
Just my 2 cents, or 20 rather.

2021.11.29 17:56 Flashfall Concepts for 2 "health" bars for MAXes
Before y'all start slinging shit in the comments about "NERF/REMOVE MAX" or "MAX FINE GIT GUD", this is not about nerfing or buffing MAXes, I just want to share some concepts I came up with from reading a comment with a novel idea for MAXes. If you're gonna bash on something in the comments, bash on how shit you think the concepts are, don't just start a fight about MAXes in general. We got enough of that already lately.

2021.11.29 17:56 ckwally Need feedback…re-carpet vs laying hardwood on the second story of a colonial.
We have lived over 10 years in a colonial with wall to wall carpet on the second story in very poor shape. I think installing hardwood would easily run 2x over carpet if not more with the rising cost in wood. Kids are grown, dog is aging and I will be likely getting a new pup in the next 18 months. I’ve delayed carpeting in the past because I’ve struggled to get dog vomit stains out in the past and was scared to have that happen on a new carpet. What would you choose for your home? Are pre-finished boards any good? Any fairly stain resistant carpet to recommend? Thanks!
